United Nations 2025/2026
Content: UNO - Geneva, New York, Vienna. (Excerpt from the MICHEL Europe and Overseas series)
Description:
Collectors of the United Nations collection area will find all the issues they need for their collections in this volume. These include not only the UN Headquarters in New York and the offices in Geneva and Vienna, but also their predecessors and subsidiary organizations, such as the League of Nations and the International Court of Justice in The Hague. The UN interim administrations in Kosovo, West New Guinea and East Timor are featured as well. So you will find everything in one handy edition instead of having it spread across several Europe and overseas titles.
Since the United Nations Charter was signed by its founding members in 1945, its primary objective has been the safeguarding of global peace and international security. Emerging from an era of world wars, this organization’s main interest is to prevent wars through international understanding. Over time, other goals – such as safeguarding the future and human rights – have been added and are pursued by the UN through various activities.
By issuing its own stamps since 1951, the New York headquarters has been creating collectors’ items for anyone who supports the ideas and goals of the United Nations. What’s more: A UN collection will grace every philatelist’s album with very unique issues, some of which celebrate the jubilees of international organizations, such as the Universal Postal Union, while others draw attention to important global issues, such as the extinction of species.
This year marks the 80th Anniversary of the UN, which, like other international organizations and many nations from all over the world, is participating in the Expo in Osaka, Japan, with its own pavilion. In April, all three United Nations postal administrations dedicated a jointly issued sheetlet to this major world exposition. The motto of the Expo, “United for a Better Future”, precisely follows the UN’s goals of safeguarding the future and fostering international understanding. In the philatelic world, sheetlets featuring stamps from different postal regions are truly rare. For UN collectors, it has been just another special feature of their collection area since the 2011 edition commemorating the anniversary of manned space flight.
In this edition, the joint issue that celebrates the 2025 Expo completes the cataloguing of novelties.
