Description: The 2024/2025 MICHEL Overseas South Africa features the former British states in South Africa, including the islands of the British overseas territory of St. Helena, Ascension and Tristan da Cunha, covering the entire period from the first stamps issued in the South African colonies in 1853 to the most recent issues of the contemporary states that are popular with stamp collectors. All of the countries listed in this catalogue have a very restrained issuing policy, which is rather untypical for these times. The South African Postal Administration, for instance, has issued only three new stamps since 2021 due to serious financial challenges, and Sambia has been putting new overprints on existing stamps for several years now. The discovery of novelties is rare yet possible at any time, either in this catalogue or at post offices, on ordinary letters or the philatelic market. The issues presented in this edition are not only of interest to collectors of countries but also to collectors of motifs. The versatile fauna of South Africa, for instance, is documented in detail regarding the issues of all countries featured in this catalogue – which becomes particularly evident since practically all stamp images are now depicted in colour. Most of the coarsely engraved black-and-white images from the former days of lead typesetting have long since disappeared.

We also revised the texts of all collection areas in this edition and complemented them with new information or arranged existing data so it is easier to find. All quotations have also been carefully revised and updated to reflect the current market, which compelled us to make several changes, particularly regarding the more contemporary issues that are difficult to obtain. In this volume we have included all novelties on the market, which enabled us to take stamp issues up to 2024 into consideration, depending on the information available to us.
