Description:
The Southeast Asian issues that are listed in this MICHEL catalog are among the most popular overseas collection areas of German stamp collectors. The reasons for that may be the connexion through tourism as well as the consistently reputable issuing policies of all these countries, interesting motifs with depictions typical of the regions and pleasant designs.
But the collecting of stamps is also widespread in Southeast Asia itself, which ensures a solid price basis and frequently surprising price developments. Taken, for example, the price increases of some Laotian issues, which have shown to be comparatively rare despite growing demand: MiNumbers 514–516 in mint condition rose from a modest price of € 3.80 to € 300, MiNumbers 1366–1369 from € 10 to € 120, and numerous other stamps have shown price increases that are many times their previous prices.
As is the case with issues from Laos, virtually no price has remained unchanged regarding Cambodia. To further improve and expand the contents of this edition, the FDC prices for these two countries have now been included – as was previously done concerning Thailand.
In regards to issues from Singapore, the reprints of the contemporary postage stamp series, which can be identified by the number and letter codes found in the stamp image, keep presenting challenges for our editorial team. All versions existing at the time of printing should now be listed, however. We have not yet been able to assess their prices. The potential rarity of individual issues will only become apparent gradually!
As with every new edition of our catalogues, additional improvements have been made regarding the texts, which have been reviewed and, where necessary, edited or complemented, as well as new images that are gradually replacing images that might be inferior.
