Description:
Due to the sharp increase in the price of silver, the German Federal Ministry of Finance has decided to increase the face value of commemorative coins in sterling silver from € 20 to € 35 and of fine silver coins from € 25 to € 50 as of 2026, and to significantly reduce the silver content of said coins. Thus, the Federal Ministry of Finance will issue a € 50 commemorative coin titled “Silent Night”, which marks the launch of the “German Christmas Carols” multi-part series that will be the first €50 coins in fine silver. This new series will consist of five coins issued between 2026 and 2030. Another novel commemorative coin series – “Exploration of Space” – with a nominal value of € 5 will be issued in the years 2026 to 2028.
The novelties issued by all participating Eurozone countries in 2025 have been compiled for collectors of € 2 commemorative coins, including their respective numbers of issue and prices. Therefore, MICHEL has become a reference work any collector of these collection areas can’t do without. There is a continuing trend within the coin market to pay high prices for coins in above-average condition. The current development of rising prices for gold and silver is reflected in the new price quotations listed in this edition of the catalogue, which are based on € 125 per gram of fine gold and € 2 per gram of fine silver for mid-January of 2026. The rapid price fluctuations for gold and silver will result in further price adjustments.
The numbers of minted euro circulation coins have been updated to the extent that they were available, and the coins issued for 2026 have been included. This catalogue also features a preview of the German coins planned to be issued in 2026 as well as the 2027 programme of issues. This edition also features the Bulgarian euro circulation coins, which have been in circulation since 2026.
