Description:

  • On January 11th, 2001, a stamp showing a Calechutian pepper, today known as chili pepper, was published in Germany. The depiction used for the image on the issue was taken from the herbal book created by the skillful artist and botanist Leonhart Fuchs in 1543 – making the postage stamp MiNo. 2161 from 2001, the year of the 500th anniversary of Leonhart Fuchs’ birthday, equally beautiful. But that is not all there is to it. Said stamp is also the first issue produced in the latest German perforation process, the integrated ground perforation. Unlike the traditional comb perforation, a process during which the perforation holes are cut out of the paper by a single strike of the perforation comb, the ground perforation is a method where the paper, which has been pressed out by needles, is grounded off. This difference makes the German postage stamp series “World of Letters” so intriguing to collectors since both processes were used to produce several values of that series. The 2024/2025 MICHEL Germany Catalogue presents a detailed cataloguing of these different perforation variations for the first time ever.

  • The designers and engravers of the postage stamps issued by Saarland had to be skilled as well since the in-depth details certainly required utmost concentration – another reason to honour these artists in MICHEL. This 111th Edition provides greatly extended information about the designers and engravers of the collection areas of Saar as well as the French and American-British zones of occupation.

  • Apropos of aesthetics: this latest edition of the MICHEL Germany catalogue features numerous new photos – for instance regarding the collection areas of Belgian military mail in Rhineland, Eupen, Malmédy as well as an overview of the postage stamps issued in East Germany, Berlin and West Germany. And of course for the latest new stamps issued by Deutsche Post, which are presented in MICHEL Rundschau every month after the MICHEL catalogue has been published – in combination with captivating articles about all areas of philately.

  • The most striking price fluctuations are found in the collection areas of Old Germany, stamp booklets issued during the Deutsche Reich, occupation during WWI and WWII, Sudetenland, local issues as of 1945 and Berlin (West).
